It's that time again...

The obligatory Christmas card post :-)

Honestly, my favorite time of the year now starts on October 26 - my daughter's birthday. Before she came along, my favorite time of the year started on November 7 - our anniversary :-) I love jeans and sweatshirts and crisp fall air, and that rolls right into Thanksgiving and turkey and Black Friday shopping and baking stuff and not really doing a ton at work (or is that just me?) and SNOW and family stuff and Christmas trees (!!!) and trips to see family in NJ...

And now we get to kick off the season October 26, so we're in full swing here. Clearly it is time to start thinking about Christmas cards because they have to go out kind of soon... I like to get mine out the first week in December so that our family & friends can see our smiling faces for a full month. How sneaky of me to be spreading the good cheer so early, right?

We just did our annual family photo shoot and I have a bunch of great pictures to choose from. The only easy choice I have is going with Shutterfly for the cards. We used Shutterfly last year and I was so impressed with the quality of the paper and the beautiful printing! But after that? I am lost. I have a bunch of awesome pictures, they have a bunch of awesome designs...

This one is called Mod Holly and I loooooove the bright, but simple, colors.

Or something classic like the Rainbow Greetings Christmas Card? Guess you'll just have to wait and see!

Shutterfly also has photo calendars (good for grandparents, I assume?) and a variety of other photo gifts, making it super easy to give personal gifts that your family will love.

In exchange for my honest review, Shutterfly gave me 50 free photo cards, and I cannot wait to order them! Are you a blogger? Want a chance at 25 free cards this holiday season? Register here: http://goo.gl/DDw7Q

Can't wait? Shutterfly also gave me 3 codes worth 25 free photo cards each, and I'd love to share them with you! Leave me a comment below with your email address - first 3 to leave me comments get the codes.

Party Time!!

The other day, I mentioned that I'd be hosting a party.... ready for the details?

Join me all month for a Mary Kay E-Party!!

I am teaming up with my Mary Kay Beauty Consultant, Amanda Delaney, for the entire month of September to host an online Mary Kay party. You've probably been to a "product party" like Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, or (does anyone still have these?) Tupperware and you know the drill: get dressed, go mingle, eat awesome appetizers, and try to decide what to buy in a room full of women all having the same "oh crap, what do I buy" moment. Not with the online party!

Feel free to shop the Mary Kay website all month long.... take your time, browse in you PJ's, and (clearly the best part) receive 15% off your order when you mention my blog at checkout! All the details are below, so be sure to read them before placing your order so you get the discount :-)

If you haven't used Mary Kay and aren't sure where to start, I would totally recommend the TimeWise Miracle Set. I have been using it for about 2 months now and I love the way it makes my skin feel! There are 4 components to the set:

From left to right, it's the 3-in-1 Face Wash, Moisturizer, Sunscreen, and Night Serum. I use the face wash twice almost every day and I'm just starting to run low. There is still a good amount of moisturizer & sunscreen left, and you can see how much night serum is left. The face wash smells awesome and has little microbeads in there to really get your face clean. The whole set is a little spendy at $90, but it's lasted 2 months so far and I can probably get another 2 months out of the moisturizer, sunscreen, and serum so I feel like it's worth it.

Here's a close-up of my daily routine:
After giving birth and seeing the time I have for my morning routine diminish by half, it really became important to me to start taking care of my skin.... mainly so I don't have to wear a lot of make-up to look ok! I'm also swiftly heading towards the big 3-0 so I like that it's "age fighting"... makes me feel like I'm doing something to keep wrinkles at bay!

My other favorite product is the Ultimate Mascara, which I mentioned yesterday:

Check out my naked face & enter for you chance to win a free mascara HERE! Entries close on Thursday and the winner will be announced on Friday. But if you can't wait & want to try it now, it's normally $15 but you can get it through my online party for only $12.75!

Ready to order? Here's the deal:

  1. Head to www.marykay.com/amandadelaney and look around! It's important that you go to Amanda's site (and not just marykay.com) so that she can track orders and make sure you get your discount.
  2. Fill up your cart with whatever goods you like and then click "check out" in the upper right corner of the page.
  3. Double check your cart, click the big check out button, and register for a free account. Click through everything, add your shipping address & double check everything.
  4. In Step 2 of 3 it will ask for payment. Make sure you click "Contact Me For Payment" and put Bless This Nest in the comment section. That code will get you 15% off your order total!!
  5. Await the arrival of your fancy new Mary Kay products :-)
Wanna hear the best, best part? If you place an order during September 2011 and use the code for 15% off.... any future orders you place with the code "Bless This Nest" will also get you a 15% discount!!! Happy Shopping - and don't forget to enter the giveaway!

Giveaway and a Party!

I can't believe it's already September! I feel like the summer always goes by way to fast but mornings like this - crisp and clear - make me excited for the fall. I love sweatshirts & jeans & a new tube of mascara.

Yep, new mascara. Not pens and notebooks. Mascara. It's my favorite back to school thing! Some girls like new shoes... I just like new mascara. I mean, I buy new mascara when I need it, but there's something about starting off the year with a fresh tube of mascara that makes me reaaaaally happy. I also like a new tube for the holiday season, but that's still weeeeeeks away (even though stores seem to think otherwise?) so we won't go there.

My go-to brand is usually Covergirl, and I LOVE DiorShow for special occasions (like my wedding/honeymoon only because wow is it expensive), but I have a brand new favorite that I am so excited to show you!

Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara

I don't normally wear a ton of makeup, so big & thick lashes are a must. Well, that and really good under eye coverup. But mainly big lashes because I feel like they make me look instantly put together and wide-eyed, even if I really just need another coffee (or 3). Behold, my super naked (and tired) face:

Most mornings I pull my wet hair back in a braid, slap on coverup, and swipe on a few coats of mascara before going to work. Yikes, right? I know, that's why I'll try any mascara that crosses my path - I'm always on the look out for the perfect tube. The Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara claims that it's super volumizing and is flake & clump resistant. The first thing I noticed when I pulled the wand from the tube was there it was fully clump free. The box says that it has "smart wiper technology" which I think is just a fancy way of saying that the tube wipes the brush on the way out. Either way, it works. I didn't have to drag the brush across the top of the tube to get off the extra before trying to get it on my lashes, which was really nice. And I wore it for 12+ hours a day the past few days and it sure is smudge resistant - even with a baby trying to grab my glasses off my face, which is nice because the raccoon look is so not in these days.

I didn't think that it made my lashes super voluminous, but it did make them more defined & waaaaaaay longer! They are super glossy, super black, and super long. Wanna see my lashes?

Try to focus on the extra long lashes and not the eyebrows that are about 10 months overdue for a waxing. And thats all I have on - no eyeliner, no shadow - just mascara. Yey!

So now what? Well, now I have 5 tubes of Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara for 5 lucky readers! To enter for a chance to win:
  • Leave me a comment below telling me about your favorite mascara or favorite back to school item
  • Tweet about this giveaway & post the link to the tweet below (copy me in the tweet @hagen23)
  • Blog about this giveaway and & post the link to your post below
For each entry, make sure you leave a separate comment and if your blog doesn't have your email address, be sure to leave that in your comments as well. Entries will close on Thursday, September 8 and the winners will be announced on Friday, September 9!

*************
Can't wait to see if you won & want to try out the Ultimate Mascara now? Or have a MK favorite and need to stock up? Stay tuned - I'm hosting an online Mary Kay party for the entire month of September and every order is eligible for a discount - no minimum needed! I'll post the details tomorrow :-)

Happy Thursday!

*I was provided a new mascara (plus 5 to giveaway) by my Mary Kay rep in exchange for my honest review. These words are my own!

Tomorrow!

Be sure to check in tomorrow because I have a fabulous giveaway lined up.... and there will be 5 winners!! FIVE!!

I also have an awesome discount party planned for September, so make sure you stop by tomorrow for all the details & to enter to win. Want a hint? It's my favorite "back to school" item but it has nothing to do with actual schoolwork. Any guesses? I'll see you tomorrow bright and early with the answer!

Happy Last Day of August!

Makeup makes me happy

Even though I totally have no idea when it comes to how to apply eyeshadow. My normal routine is slap on some under-eye concealer, draw on dark brown eyeliner, curl up the lashes, and swipe on a few coats of extra black mascara. I have it down to 5 minutes because that's how I roll these days.

I can't even tell you the last time I dried my hair. Maybe March? Some days it's a wet pony, and some days it's a wet braid. I'd rather get 20 minutes of snuggle time with the babe in the morning than tackle a blowdryer. At least I don't have an office job :-) And THANK GOD I didn't succumb to the "mom hair" that is chin length and thus "so much easier in the morning". Short hair, on me, requires a blow out every single day, whereas with long hair it's just up and out of my face. It's not stylish and I certainly don't think I look good.... but it's quick and easy and that's what I'm about these days: spending the maximum amount of time with my kid every day.

The point of this? I need makeup that is quick and easy. I have a random assortment of stuff that I use, but I always start with the Miracle Set by MaryKay. I totally love it and I just saw Molly's blog post over at Stilettos & Diapers about her giveaway and review of a bunch of different MaryKay products!!! Check out her review and enter for a chance to win $100 worth of beauty products. Let her know I sent you :-)

Winner: WW Giveaway

Back before the Snowpacolypse started I posted a giveaway for the WW Complete Food Companion. I ment to post the winner yesterday but I was busy wondering when the hell the snow was going to start up again. Lucky me, it finally started snowing again around 4pm and right now there's a f*cking blizzard outside my door.

Anywho... the winner is:

Steph, I'll get it in the mail as soon as I can find my car to get to the post office.... which may be never. Congrats! And thanks to everyone for entering!

Menu Monday

No work today, and we're expecting another foot of snow to be dumped on us between Tuesday and Wednesday. What do you do when you're snowed in? Eat. Well, I do, anyway.

The scale has been no bueno the past few days - probably a result of my baking/carb addiction. I'm going to attempt a healthy menu this week in hopes of getting the scale to inch downwards back where it should be for the next WW weigh in (Wed, snow pending).

Monday: Ryan requested chili, so I'm going to try out this recipe. Big seving for not a lot of points. That is totally how I roll.

Tuesday: We may be snowed in again, but if not, I have weigh in the next morning. I'm going to make quick and easy stuffed peppers and serve with a side of salad.

Wednesday: Leftovers. There'll be chili, stuffed peppers, and french onion soup to choose from, so no one is going hungry.

Thursday: I'm officiating volleyball. Leftovers (or rice with buffalo sauce, which is Ryan's go to meal) for Ryan, and a salad and Boca chik'n patty for me.

Friday & Saturday: Up in the air. Ryan may be at work late, or maybe he won't be. Same goes for the weekend... the snow messed up his work schedule and he might be working all weekend.

Valentines Day: I'm at work from 5pm-midnight. We may go out for lunch, or maybe we'll order in to my office and spend the evening there. No clue. How romantic (kill me, please).

I'm hoping to keep this grocery bill under $75... we also need some odds and ends (like disher washer packets and kitchen cleaner), though, so wish me luck! Oh, and don't forget to enter the WW giveaway I have going. It ends tonight at midnight, so enter now!

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Is it Friday yet?

Seriously, how can it be only Wednesday?

I'm sick and tired of freezing weather, snow covered cars in the morning, and bundling up like a freaking Polar Bear. I am so not built for cold weather.

I figure I can't be the only one in a foul mood today, so I decided to stir the pot a little with a fun giveaway that'll get you all geared up for the spring.

I have a brand new copy of the Weight Watchers 2009 Complete Food Companion to give away to someone looking to shed some winter weight! This 566 page book lists the points values for nearly every food you can think of - crucial if you're doing (or want to start) WW and are tracking your foods.

I've had a ton of success with WW and am happy to pass this along. I won it at a WW meeting recently, but I use eTools (their online version of this) and am hoping there's someone out there who might find this useful.

I'm going to make it super easy to enter:

  1. Leave me a comment telling me what you're most excited about for spring. Warm weather? New clothes? Vacation? I want to know.
  2. For a second entry, become a follower (or tell me that you already are)

That's it! Two ways to enter. Be sure to leave your email address in your comments so I can contact you. Entries close on Monday (the 8th) at midnight and I'll use Random.org to pick a winner. Good luck!

Giveaway: Souper You Debut

Back in December, Progresso contacted me about a contest they were doing and asked if I'd like to be a part of it. Obviously I said yes - who doesn't love Progresso soup, right?

Like every other person on the face of this Earth, I'm trying to lose those last 5 pounds (or 10, whatever), and when better to really kick off your weight loss than in the new year? Apparently Progresso is on to us, because they've created the Souper You Debut.

The contest offers a chance to win a trip for 2 to New York for a make-over and $1000 shopping spree - can you think of a better way to celebrate the new year? Me either.

So how do you enter? It's pretty easy. Click here to be taken to Progresso's website, submit a 200 word essay on why you love Progresso soup and why you'd love a make-over, and lastly, submit a photo that reinforces your essay. Then you just wait till you win, and then head off to NY the weekend of May 21-23.

Easy, right?

Oh, what's that? You don't know why you love Progresso soup and therefore cannot write an essay on that topic?

Want to win a few free cans so you can taste the goodness yourself?

When Progresso contacted me about this contest, they also sent me a huge care package of 15 cans of Light and 100 calorie soups, a nice soup mug, and an electronic jump rope (to keep track of those calories burnt!). Look at all this loot:

They sent me a variety of both Light soup and 100 calorie soup, which is great because they both fit into the Weight Watchers plan:

The first one I tried out was Chicken and Dumplings, and while the veggies were a little mushy, the taste was spot on. Not too salty, nice chunks of chicken, and dough-y dumplings. Yum. And the best part was that I was able to eat the whole can and not feel like I just ate my weight in sodium. Yesterday for lunch I had the Southwest Style Vegetable, and that is probably my favorite. It takes like there's some taco mix in there, and the veggies were yummy. The beans fill you up, and the whole can is 1 WW point. 1 POINT!!! That's nothing!

Because they're so low in calories, I've been eating a whole can with a Boca chicken patty every day for lunch, and I really am satisfied after lunch. Not too full, and def. not hungry at all. Just right; and I can make it through till almost 4pm before I need a little snack to get me through till dinner. The best part, obviously, is that there are so many varieties that even though I've been eating soup every day, it hasn't been the same kind every day and that really helps to shake things up.

So what's in it for you? Progresso has offered to send one of my readers a gift pack containing 2 cans of Progresso soup, a soup mug, and an electronic jump rope!

To enter, leave a comment for each item listed below. Each comment will count as an entry, so be sure to leave a separate comment for each thing you do. And don't forget to leave me your email address so I can contact you if you win!

The contest will run from today through Thursday, January 21. The winner will be chosen by random.org and will be announced on Friday, January 22. OK, ready to enter?

To enter:
  1. Leave me a comment below telling me why you want to win. (1 entry)
  2. Become a public follower of my blog (1 entry)
  3. Tweet about this giveaway. Be sure to include my Twitter ID (@Hagen23) so I can give you credit. Tell me you Tweeter and leave your Twitter ID in the comments below. (1 entry)
  4. Grab my button and put it on your blog. Be sure to leave me your blog address below! (leave 2 separate entries below for this)
  5. Blog about this giveaway and leave me the link to the post below (leave 2 separate entries for this below)

If you do each thing, you will leave 7 separate entries. Good luck - the winner will be announced on Jan. 22!

Who doesn't love a good swap?

Katie over at Loves of Life is hosting a pretty fabulous Valentine's Day themed swap! I love a good swap because really, I love to see a little something extra in my mail every now and again (sorry, Capital One, that crap you send doesn't count) to remind me that there's more to life than just bills and junk mail. Ya know?

Loves of Life

So click on over (via the button above) to Katie's blog by January 22 to sign up. There's a neat little survey to fill out so your swap partner knows what you like, and a $15 limit so it doesn't break the bank.

Product Review & Last Back2School Giveaway!

Remember this post? Exactly a month ago I was contacted by the folks over at Living Rooms Direct to do a product review of anything on their website, and was pointed to their modern housewares sectional, notNeutral. After looking through the site (multiple times; it was impossible to narrow down my choices!) I decided on the Links Carafe, thinking it would be a great addition to my wine collection. First, let me say that the customer service from Living Rooms Direct was great. I got email updates throughout the process, letting me know that the order had been completed and that it had shipped. They also included the tracking number so I could see when it had been delivered so I knew to expect it when I got home from work.

It arrived in a standard brown shipping box, and inside I found this:

It was packaged perfectly, arriving completely intact, and I set it out with my wine on our entertainment cart:
The carafe is glass, and while it seemed quite delicate, it actually has a good heft to it and is very durable. The top rim is a good thickness, and the edges are rounded. We used it to decant wine, but it would be perfect for ice water, lemonade, iced tea.... really anything you want to serve in style. I can't believe I didn't take a picture of our wine in it (we were really enjoying the wine), but here it is again:

I hope the collection of wine corks in the pitcher (on the left) doesn't make me look like a raging alcoholic.
Anywhoo, I love the Links Carafe. It's simple construction definitely doesn't lack in style though - look at the detailing at the bottom! It's also easy to hold - there isn't a handle on it, but the neck is the perfect size and I'm able to pretty much wrap my hand around it. Oh, and see the little pour spout? No spills. I didn't even have any drips after a pour... which meant no red wine stains on my oak table. Happiness. It's on the website right now for $23.04 plus shipping, and has matching glassware - highballs, cordials, and old fashions. It all comes highly recommended from me, especially the carafe!

But here's the best part.... the fine folks at Living Rooms Direct sent me two of these babies, which means I'll be keeping one (to decant wine after breaking the cork inside the bottle, which happens quite often) and I have a second one to giveaway!
Here are the rules:
  1. To enter, leave me a comment with your favorite item from the notNeutral collection. Trust me, there is so cool stuff over there!
  2. For a second entry, become a follower on my Twitter account (Hagen23) and Tweet about this giveaway. Be sure to put me (@hagen23) in the Tweet so I see it.
  3. For a third entry, become a follower of Bless This Nest.
  4. For a fourth entry, post about this giveaway on your blog.

Now here's the important part - each entry MUST be a separate comment! If it's not, it won't count, and that would be sad. The entry period will end on Saturday, September 19 at noon (EST) and the winner will be announced that evening.

In the mean time, check out Living Rooms Direct... they sell way more than just living room furniture!

Back2School: {Gussy has a lot to sew}

Happy Monday and welcome back to the Back2School Giveaway Extravaganza!I'm super excited about this giveaway, so let's get right to it.

Remember these little clips of fabric? They all belong to a Gussy original! What is a Gussy original? It's handmade vintage-inspired wallets & clutches with flair, of course :-)

Way back before we went on our MidWest Road Trip ::I still owe you St. Louis; I swear it's coming:: I was searching around on Etsy (obviously) for a cute clutch that didn't break the bank. Gussy's shop came up in my search, I fell in love the girlie ruffles, and I knew I needed a Gussy clutch for vacation. Thing was, it was a Friday, and I needed the clutch by Tuesday at the latest, cause we were leaving super early on Wednesday morning. I emailed Maggie {aka Gussy} to see if it would be possible to get it out to me ASAP, and she emailed me back almost immediately to let me know that I could go ahead and purchase the clutch and she'd get it in the mail that day. She's such a doll!

Sure enough, my clutch arrived on Monday! I can't even tell you ho much I love my Gussy clutch - it's super roomy, so adorable, and very well made. You can tell Maggie really puts her heart into all of her work. You can also tell that I love my Gussy bag, as it makes numerous appearances in my vacation pictures:

When I got back from vaction, I started reading Maggie's blog and looking at all of the other ruffled goodness she has in her shop. And because I love my Gussy clutch so much, I decided to email her to see if she'd be interested in doing a giveaway on my blog.

Lucky you, she said yes! Check out some of her work:

Maggie aka Gussy has generously agreed to donate a $20 gift certificate to her shop! This gift certificate can be used towards any item in stock in her shop; the only thing it can't be used for is shipping. So how do you win? Easy peasy:
  • For one entry: Leave me a comment below telling me your favorite thing about the back to school season.
  • For a second entry: Become a follower (and let me know!)
  • For a third entry: Follow me on twitter @Hagen23 (and let me know so I can follow you!) and TWEET about this giveaway!
  • For a fouth entry: Post this giveaway on your blog (leave me the link, of course).

You can leave all of your entries in one comment; I'm going to create an Excel sheet like I did last time so you don't need to worry about leaving 4 seperate comments. Just be sure to tell me all of the ways you are entering (blog follower, blog post, Twitter follower, fav. thing about back to school season!) so I can get an accurate count.

Want that $20 gift certificate to Gussy's shop? What are you waiting for?! The contest ends on September 8 at noon (EST), so be sure to enter before then! Good luck!
