Questions -

We spent the evening at the hospital's Wellness Pavillion learning all about health concerns folks might have prior to getting pregnant. I am left with the following thoughts:

  • if there is only a 15% chance of getting pregnant each month, HOW are teenagers getting pregnant every nine seconds?!
  • planning a pregnancy is very intense. The whole stopping of the birth control, the deciding to actually get a baby.... when you have been trying so hard to NOT get pregnant, trying to get your mind around the fact that it is now ok is so bizarro.
  • my husband knows what charting is. How, you ask? Aunt Becky (of Full House fame) did it when trying to get pregnant with the twins. I was sorry I asked.
  • do we go with an OB or a midwife? If you asked my husband, he'd go with an OB because "why go with the JV quarterback when you can get the star QB to start the game?". He also mentioned that he thought midwives went out with the 18th century, and asked why they always ask for hot water and ripped up towels. I couldn't stop giggling. Which leads me to...
  • OMG they would seriously let us leave the hospital with an actual baby. Again, how intense.

Your hubby is cracking me up!! Full House, midwives, hot water...I'm loving it. =)Though I can't really answer the questions, since I've never had a baby.

Watch the movie "The Business of Being Born." It's about America's maternity practices. It's really good and makes you think a lot about what we should be doing when we're having babies. There's also a book "Your Best Birth."

Good luck :)

This seems like a lot of pre-planning to me. I guess that's a good thing, although overthinking causes stress and that doesn't help much. We actually adopted our first child. Talk about being scared...they really do just hand you that baby with a few days notice. We hadn't had any classes, hadn't read any books (too painful when you are waiting). When I had my daughter I was much calmer. They show you how to do things at the hospital...don't panic.

Really, I'd just stop the birth control, don't chart, don't try too hard and let nature takes it course. If it doesn't...then pull out the thermometer and turn it into a "job". It isn't much fun that way, believe me.

Our first one was a surprise--after 3 years of marriage-can it really happen? Or is it just folk lore? Then we had to go to specialistis for 2 and 3. 4 and 5 were surprises. It was great to be surprised after the fertility issues. However, with #4, I am so glad I had the starting quarter back dr. Best of luck in your adventure!

Haha, your husband is hilarious! I try not to get too wrapped up in the statistics otherwise I start freaking out! Does the 15% apply the amount women try each month? Or just that small window of time when women are actually fertile?

Teenagers have lots of sex. Remember life before multiple jobs, bills, and responsibilities? Me either. But it doesn't stop me from thinking about waking up late, going to the gym, running a few errands, and getting dinner ready before a good romp. I really should win the lottery soon.

Just keep the beach houses rocking and be sure to keep it fun!!
