1-800-Because-it-Saves-Me-$72-That's-Why

This afternoon I decided it was finally time to order contacts (seeing as the starter pair I've been wearing for 3 weeks now are getting a little fuzzy), so I looked up my lens on 1-800-Contacts and called up my eye doctor to see what my prescription was.

The conversation went like this:

Me: Hi, I was in for a contact fitting a few weeks ago and I like these contacts. I want to get my prescription so I can order them online.

Receptionist: OK, are you going to order them through us?

Me: No, I'm going to order them online.

Receptionist: Why?

Me: Well how much are they through you?

Receptionist: (flips through some papers, loudly) Um, looks like the kind you want are going to be $280 for the year.

Me: Ok, yeah, they're cheaper online at 1-800-Contacts.

Receptionist: Really, how much? (she is not convinced)

Me: Well, if I order 6 months of lens now, I save $20 instantly, and I have a coupon for an additional $13 off my order, making the grand total $104 for 6 months, and then I can order an additional 6 months for another $104. Which would mean ordering them online saves me $72.

Receptionist: (disgruntled) Well, do what you want.

Me: OK, thanks. Would you be able to tell me my prescription?

Receptionist: (snotty) No, I have to fax it to you. Do you have a fax machine?

Me: Actually I do.

Receptionist: (pause) Oh. Well then I guess I'll fax it to you.

Honestly. My eye doctor is the sweetest man. His receptionists... not so much. New contacts in 5-7 days; how great.

I just don't understand why some people are rude for no reason like that! It's crazy!

I went through 1800 Contacts once and it was great. Also bought through the eye doctor once. Not so great...

I always order from 1-800-Contacts! It's really easy, and usually cheaper. Plus, I have vision insurance, so I can mail in my printed receipt and get part of it reimbursed (usually up to $150). Works for me!

That is hilarious! I always get flustered when people question me like that. Good for sticking up for yourself!

@Maggie - I was totally at work, so it wasn't my fax machine so much as it is the company's :-)
