Really, French Connection?

Note: This ended up being a lengthier post than I ment for it to be. I promise it has a point. It just might take a minute to get there.

I know there are folks out there who enjoy cleaning. I am not one of them. I do it, but I don't like it. And on the list of chores, there are two things I despise: cleaning the bathroom and folding laundry. I worked out a deal with Ryan early on in our relationship. I won't go into full details, but I am off the hook for cleaning the bathroom; he takes care of that. The laundry, though.... I'm stuck with that mainly because I like my things folded, not tossed in a pile and jammed into a drawer.

Because I have an utter hatred for folding laundry, but semi-enjoy the actual loading of the washer/dryer part, we have a tendency to have 2 full laundry baskets of clothing floating around the house at any given time. I finally decided tonight that I was sick of looking at the baskets and figured I'd fold them and put them away while Ryan was playing the Wii.

So here I am, laundry all sorted and folded and in neat little piles on the bed, all extra happy with myself. While I'd rather do it all in one big load, as opposed to every night of the week, the issue I then face is trying to get everything to fit into the drawers. Well, tonight a lightbulb went off. Why don't I just get rid of the stuff I know I'll never wear again?

This was a pretty big decision for me, as I am known for hanging on to every article of clothing with the hopes that I might want to wear it (or fit into it) again. I mean, you never know when you might need an Abercrombie polo in melon pink with minor pit stains, right? Kill me. I guess I feel bad throwing things out because they cost so much (and because I'm still paying them off via the great credit card debacle). And because I know that if I lose 10 pounds, I'll be able to fit into them again (even though at that point, would I really want to wear them?).

As I went through my drawers and pulled out old tank tops and heinous crew neck tee-shirts from Old Navy (circa 2004; I know I bought them in college) to get rid of, I came across one item that made me laugh:
fcuking shirt (see, French Connection, I can do it, too)

Incase you can't read the print, it says "Too busy to fcuk". I distinctly remember feeling sooooo cool as I paid my $28 for this shirt at Bloomingdale's in college. I also remember wearing it out to the bars and feeling like such a bad ass - ha, people think my shirt says F*CK!! Really though, who is too busy to fcuk**? Honestly, what are you doing that makes you that busy? Can't you drop a hobby or something? Maybe give up a few coffee/cigarette breaks so you can get your work done in a timely fashion so you're not at work 75 hours a week? Damn.

I ended up getting rid of a garbage bag full of random shirts. The FCUK shirt stayed. I'm not entirely sure why, as I can't imagine when/where I'd actually wear it, but I figured that if at any point in the future my life because too busy, I'd have the perfect attire. And I paid $28 for that damn thing and it hasn't sat in my drawer nearly that many dollars worth yet, either. I figure another few months should do it. Then I'll drop it off at the Goodwill store near my house and let some mother explain to their child why that shirt, although very cool, just isn't appropriate for school.

**I just mean "too busy to shop at French Connection UK", Mom.

hahah :) funny :)

cleaning out our drawers is on my to-do list this week. blah. I am NOT moving a bunch of clothes we don't ever wear across the ocean only to unpack it at a later date and not wear it AGAIN. :)

I do remember that shirt and how utterly obscene I thought it was and how angry I was because you purchased it!
