Out of my league.

I'm going to a bachelorette party tonight and I'm having a minor freak out due to the following conversation:

Me: I'm super excited for this weekend.
Bride: I know! I'm so glad you're coming up for it!
Me: Hey, I'm gonna get some stuff packed but I'm not sure what to bring. What are you wearing?
Bride: Probably jeans, heels, and a super cute shirt to dinner. Then we can go back to the room, get dressed and put on make-up.
Me: Sounds good! ::WHAAAAAAAAAAT???????::

So wait, we're going out to dinner in what I'd normally go out in, and then coming back to the hotel room to get dressed up. Dressed up how? I'm not new to the bachelorette scene by any means, and my Thursdays through Saturdays in college were spent at bars. So how is it possible that at the age of 26 (27 in a month!), I have no "going out" clothes (or even know what going out clothes are??)?

I'll give you a brief rundown of my bar going experience:

In college, I hung out with people who were ok with going out to the bar in jeans and flip flops. We all looked super cute (I managed to get myself a husband, after all), we just didn't ever get super dressed up. My college was a professional school for agriculture, for Christ's sake! Then I went to the Midwest for grad school. All we did was drink! It just so happens that no one gets dressed up to go to townie bars. Then we moved to Baltimore, with ample opportunity to hit clubs and the like, right? Except when we moved here, I didn't have a job and we didn't have any friends. So we didn't go out. Then I got a job and we got some friends, but we couldn't afford to go out (we were paying for a wedding). Then after the wedding was over and now our friends have turned into our BFF's, we go out a fair amount.... but we wear jeans and flip flops.

The moral of the story is that I am (and always have been) a jeans and flip flops type of girl, and I gravitate towards those types of people. Tonight will be a whole new experience for me.

That being said, I have nothing to wear tonight. I ended up calling the bride back for some clarification on clothing ( know, how lame am I?) and feel marginally better. I can wear my jeans, but have nothing dressy enough for on top... so I'm waiting for the mall to open at 10am so I can find something. Wish me luck... tonight's festivities are soooooo out of my league. (This must be how a regular guy feels when a really hot girl talks to him. Makes you feel a little self-conscious. And makes me feel a little bit like a boy.)

This happened to me 2 weeks ago! My sis-in-law was visiting and wanted to go out. Only problem, no clothes for a now mommy! Had to shop. Go to Forever 21 or Wet Seal for some reasonably priced dressy tops. Remember how dark it is in all those places and that should calm your fears. :) Have fun!

ha.. the last few weeks/months I've been scouring outfits like this to wear. None of the people I hang out with dress up that much either. Even if I knew what to wear--I'd feel out of place/not in my element!

Hope you found the perfect top, and share it with us!
